In the last week, Instagram removed its ‘Following’ tab that lets you view the activity of people you are following. Until a week ago, when you would click on the ‘heart’ button in the app footer, you would be able to toggle between ‘Activity’ which is the activity on your profile of likes, comments, and new followers, and then ‘Following’ tab which is the activity of people you are following and view their likes, comments, and new followers.
According to Instagram Head of Product Vishal Shah, the company ditched the tab for the sake of simplicity, claiming most users didn’t even know the feature existed.
“People didn’t always know that their activity is surfacing,” Instagram’s Shah told BuzzFeed News.
“So you have a case where it’s not serving the use case you built if for, but it’s also causing people to be surprised when their activity is showing up.”
Did you use the ‘Following’ tab and was it useful to you? Or are you actually a little relieved that you can’t have a sneak peek on what your ex or friends are up to?!
